SocialMax ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide:

• Journal entries: Thoughts, reflections, and notes you write in the app
• Event information: Social events you add, including names, dates, locations, and people attending
• Goals and progress: Personal goals you set and your progress tracking data
• Mood and anxiety ratings: Self-reported anxiety levels and mood check-ins
• Chat conversations: Messages you exchange with Max, our AI companion

Information Collected Automatically:

• App usage statistics (features used, session duration)
• Device type and operating system version
• Crash reports and error logs

How Your Data Is Stored

Your personal data (journal entries, events, goals, mood ratings) is stored locally on your device using secure storage. This means:

• Your data stays on your phone
• We do not have access to your personal journal entries or event details
• If you delete the app, your local data is deleted

AI-Powered Features & Third-Party Services

SocialMax includes an optional AI chat companion called Max. This feature is powered by Anthropic's Claude API, a third-party artificial intelligence service based in the United States.

What data is sent to Anthropic:

• When you use the "Chat with Max" feature, the text messages you type in the conversation are sent to Anthropic's servers to generate Max's responses
• This includes only the content of your chat messages within that conversation

What data is NOT sent to Anthropic:

• Your name or email address
• Journal entries, event details, or mood check-in data
• Exposure ladder progress or goal information
• Subscription or payment information
• Device identifiers or any other personal data stored in the app

How Anthropic handles your data:

• Anthropic processes your chat messages solely to generate responses in real-time
• Anthropic does not use conversations from API customers to train their AI models
• Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy

Your consent and control:

• Before your first chat with Max, the app presents a clear disclosure explaining what data will be shared and with whom
• You must explicitly consent before any data is sent to Anthropic
• If you decline, no data is transmitted and you can still use all other SocialMax features, including pre-loaded educational content about CBT and ACT
• You can withdraw consent at any time by going to Settings and resetting your onboarding preferences

Other AI-powered features:

• Personalized conversation starters for events
• Goal milestone suggestions

These features also use Anthropic's Claude API under the same data handling practices described above. Only the specific context needed (such as event details you choose to prepare for) is sent to generate responses.

How We Use Your Information

We use information to:

• Provide and improve the app's features
• Generate personalized AI responses and suggestions
• Track your progress and show you trends over time
• Fix bugs and improve app performance

Information Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share limited data with:

• Anthropic (AI Service Provider): Chat messages you type when using the "Chat with Max" feature are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses. No other personal data is shared. See "AI-Powered Features" above for full details.
• Analytics Services: Anonymized usage data to help us improve the app
• Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights

Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information. Your local data is stored using your device's secure storage mechanisms. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

Data Retention

Your personal data (journal entries, events, goals, mood ratings) is stored locally on your device and persists until you delete the app. Chat messages sent to Anthropic are processed in real-time and are subject to Anthropic's data retention policies.

Your Choices

• Delete your data: You can delete all your data by deleting the app from your device
• Export your data: Contact us to request an export of your data
• Opt out of analytics: Contact us to opt out of anonymous analytics

Children's Privacy

SocialMax is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
